I Fell in Love with the Enneagram and Now I am (Podcast) Famous

I was introduced to the Enneagram model in June 2019. Little did I know at the time what a life-changing experience that introduction would be to me. Back in my corporate days I had been exposed and assessed by the DISC model and Myers-Briggs. They were interesting models, but they felt more like descriptions of who I may or may not be or how I may show up in specific situations, but how to use this information to grow & develop felt lacking. Like learning about my horoscope, I found these assessments more like a novel form of entertainment.

As part of my year-long coaching certification course, we were introduced to the Enneagram model as one of the tools we could use to help understand our clients better and help them understand themselves. But it doesn’t stop there. Because the model gets down into the core fears and unconscious motivations that drive our behavior when we are going through life on autopilot, in our personalities/ego, it also shows us how we can get out of our own way. Turns out, the enneagram model shouldn't be used as a typology but rather a map for growth and discovery. The model can be simple if you want a basic map but if you desire, you can go deep within yourself, peeling and revealing the many layers that make us deeply unique human beings. The Enneagram can provide lifelong learning if you feel drawn to it.

(Never heard of the Enneagram before? Please check out the little introduction description on my website under What Is Coaching tab?).

For me, this model has helped provide me with a new lens to “see” things within myself that I have spent years trying to discover. It has shown me the gifts I have to offer the world, where before I only saw areas that I needed to improve. It has shown a light on why I was repeating certain unhealthy or unproductive patterns in my life and given me the empowerment to choose to interrupt those patterns. No model or personal discovery work prior to learning about the Enneagram has been as impactful in literally every area of my life.

After my initial introduction to the model, I took a few workshops to learn more about the Enneagram. I then obtained a practitioner accreditation through Integrative Enneagram Solutions (IEQ9®), allowing me to run personalized assessments to use in my coaching. I started using the enneagram with every coaching client and decided to also offer Enneagram training to companies, like those other models back in my corporate days.

I found, however, that while I was learning all the other types in the model, I was having trouble seeing how my Type 3 patterns were playing out in my own life. It is much easier to see things in other people, yet we all have a block or blinders when it comes to seeing ourselves. So, I hired an Enneagram coach to help me continue to peel back my inner layers. It was such an eye-opening experience in my journey. It also validated for me that my decision to become an Enneagram coaching for others is helpful.

Through that coaching relationship, my coach asked me to participate in a podcast series he and his partners were going to be recording based on a topic called Driven to Drawn. They planned to speak with a panel of 4-5 individuals by Enneagram type to discuss this topic and he was interested in having me participate in the Type 3 panel. I had never been on a podcast before and was incredibly honored and excited since I knew they had received hundreds of inquiries into participating. In January 2022, we recorded the Type 3 panel and had one of the loveliest conversations. There is something to be said about discussing a topic with people who process things in a very similar manner. I felt incredibly seen by the other 3 lovely folks on the panel with me. I seriously fell in love with them. I also learned SO much from them. I had quite a few lightbulb moments going off for me during that hour.

With that all said, I am SO EXCITED to share my podcast episode with you. I would love to invite you to check out the podcast series by The Art of Growth. The introduction to the series, reviewing the topic itself, was released on 01/31/2022. Then each Monday, they released one panel weekly, starting with Type 8 (then 9, then 1, then 2….). The Type 3 panel was released this Monday, 03/07/2022. Check it out: Enneagram Type 3 Panel-Driven to Drawn

Whether you’re deeply knowledgeable on the Enneagram or hearing about the model for the first time, I would encourage you to take a listen. Sometimes the best learning is through other people’s experiences. I get so much out of listening to panels, through this podcast or other Enneagram groups.

If you want to learn more about the Enneagram model, what Enneagram type you might lean towards, or want to do a deeper dive into your type, subtype, and learn how to use it for personal development, I would love to help you explore it all. Enneagram work is also great for couples, for teams and/or leadership development, and so much more. Reach out to me to set up a 30-minute discovery call with absolutely no obligation.
